As predicted, the misty rain turned into beautiful snow as the temperatures dropped this morning here on our little mountaintop cabin in Bland, Virginia.
Last night we saw a few flakes mixed into the mist, but it didn’t show up in a picture. It’s hard to take a photo of falling snow sometimes, especially when the ground is too warm for it to stick. But I have to say, it is simply beautiful and quite unusual for the first day of October.
Eight deer were out in the alfalfa a few minutes before the snow began to fall. I guess even they decided it was time to find a little cover.
Our son says it is sunny and beautiful at home in Wilkes County, North Carolina – perfect weather for the Apple Festival.
But here in Southwest Virginia, we’re having a little Winterfest! One pot of coffee down, hot cider up next!

We had a Thoroughbred racehorse named “Snowonthemountain” – crazy that you had snow already but that’s what your title said to me! MJ
What a great name for a racehorse! The snow didn’t stick, nor did it last long, but it was lovely – albeit weird – falling!
