Runner-Up in Essay Contest For Second Year

The news arrived mere moments ago.

Yeah!

Not the winner, but runner-up for the second year in a row in the travel portion of the essay contest for Storyhouse with my tale of adventures in the great West titled – Down the Rabbit Hole with Alice.

Last year’s – What Is It About Paris? – also took the runner-up spot.

Please check out these two essays if you haven’t already and this year’s winning piece as well – The Stream – by Isabel Bucher.  Graciously, I cede defeat to her touching story.

And to all of the winners, placers, and participants; I say – well done!

  1. Congratulations. What fantastic encouraging news Renee.
I already read your stories (and loved them both) when I first came over to your blog.
I have to walk the dog – he’s been barking to let me know it’s time to go for the past 15 minutes – so will read Isabel Bucher’s story when I return

  2. Oh, congratulations, Renee. This is award is well-deserved. Caveat: I loathe travel writing. But I read your Down the Rabbit Hole with Alice with a smile on my face. You were so close to me. And the Lamar Valley. I do want to go there and spend some quality time there. It is one of the best places of Yellowstone Park. But you know…I’ve also been to Sandwich…that’s in N. H., right? When I was there, the leaves were lovely and the sky was blue. I guess it’d be a whole different story with rain. So happy for your success.

  3. Congratulations and thank you for sharing such exciting news. I’m honored we are among the first to know. Loved Down the Rabbit Hole with Alice– again. And how did I miss What Is It About Paris? What is it about rabbits that the French eat them? Those poor rabbits destined to become paté de lapin. You certainly saw Paris through the eyes of Parisians and not a tourist. Loved that you met and really interacted with some of its citizens. You heard Robert right–“R” in Portuguese is pronounced “h”…not trilled, however it is in Spanish. Thank goodness you got to the airport. Good luck next year–third year may be the charm (cliché I know.)

    1. You need to go with me on my next adventure. It sounds like you have all of the languages down pat! I’m still listening with a twang of southern accent in my ears, much less in my voice. But I enjoy it so much, as I believe you do as well.

  4. Congratulations. It’s so cool to see your byline in print. Hooray and may you have many more awards. You deserve it.

  5. Congrats Renee! It’s really great. I remember last time also you took the runner up spot. Just like Barb, I too feel many more awards are waiting for you. Go and grab them all with your wonderful writing ability. Good luck!

  6. This is EXCELLENT! 🙂 Once is choice … two years in a row is truly achievement. Well done.
