A to Z Blogging Challenge

A challenge has been thrown down.  It is akin to the NaNoWriMo challenge in as much as it demands some writing nearly every single day for a month – the month of April – Sundays being the official ‘non-writing’ days- with the exception of the first Sunday in April.

That leaves twenty-six days which is perfect for the letters of the alphabet.  So in Sue Grafton style, the participants agree to blog about something that begins with the letter ‘A’ the first day, ‘B’ the second, and so on with ‘Z’ being the last day’s letter.

I don’t know why, but I jumped right in without consideration of the fact that I have only been posting about 1-2 blog posts per week and now will be posting almost daily.  I used to post daily, but found that I had better content, quotes, photos, etc. when I limited it to one or two a week.  So now the challenge is to retain quality while producing lots of quantity.  I am depending on you dear readers to let me know how I am doing with this.

  1. Hmmmmmmmm (thinking), that does sound interesting……

I know you will do fine, and I’m anxious to read a daily blog post from you! And I’ll let you know if I decide to participate. The daily blogging wouldn’t be an issue, but I’m not sure I want to be restrained by the “letter of the day”….
Good luck! We’re here for ya!

    1. I’m thinking of it more as a ‘prompt’ but by the time we get to the letter ‘x’, I may not be quite as optimistic. We’ll see. Thanks for the encouragement.

    1. Monica, you are already knee deep in a challenge aren’t you – the books and movies that you’re reading and reviewing? I fully understand not taking on another thing. You may wish that I hadn’t either if I am not sufficiently inspired and fail miserably.

  2. When I first started blogging, I attempted to do a blog post a day…then it went down to 5 a week. That was 2 years ago…I couldn’t agree with you more on the 1-2 blog posts a week, because it turns out to be much better content and not an overload! I have been doing about 3 a week and I really like that amount 🙂 5 is just too many ha. I’m excited to see your stuff 🙂 I bet it will be awesome.

  3. It does sound interesting…but I haven’t gotten my normal life back since NaNoWriMo. 🙂 It will be fun to see what you come up with. Go for it! At least it doesn’t have to be 1600 words per day!

    1. Very good point Patti! And it doesn’t have to be connected to any other part of a story. It could just be a picture or a quote. No requirements. You have made me feel better. Thanks.

  4. Tempting, but from doing my own personal challenge this month, when not a whole lot was scheduled, I see the kinds of things that can interrupt me. I have a getaway scheduled in April, so I already know that would be a problem. Nice to try to work with a theme, though, so might try it informally.

    1. Lee, you challenge yourself better than any outside influence ever could. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you are the busiest retired person I’ve ever known and the most interesting. So you are starting April with an Adventure. There’s two A’s for you Already!

  5. Sounds intriguing! I might even do it, although we’ll be traveling the first few days of the month, so if I do, I’ll probably have to put out several posts together to catch up. I like the idea of a plan for blogging. I’ve noticed some bloggers do this…similar posts or subject matter on the same days each week. Mine began as more of a random thing. But if I can get myself organized for this, I just might join you! At any rate, I’ll look forward to seeing your posts! ~ Sheila

      1. You know, that’s a great idea, to use things I see while we’re traveling for an A-Z list! I could start with Appalachian! ~ Sheila

  6. I wonder if there will be a place where all of the participants will have a combined list of things that were blogged about that day. Wouldn’t that be interesting? Thanks for the encouragement.

  7. I’m looking forward to reading your daily alphabet posts. I know you’ll have some fun and interesting posts. 🙂

  8. That’s fantastic! I’ve known people to do the 365 thing, but a month sounds like a reasonable challenge. Can’t wait to read your posts! I signed up, too. Glad you mentioned it.

  9. Hi,
Sounds very interesting, I don’t think it will be an easy thing to do, not for me anyway. 🙂 But I will be looking forward to your daily posts. 😀

  10. This is great. There are so many wonderful challenges going on. I love the photo challenge. It can bring out truly brilliant work in some. With ‘Z’ though I think people should be banned from writing about zebras because that’s too obvious! THERE’s a challenge 🙂

    1. Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment. I agree that zebra is obvious, yet I can only think of one zebra story for my entire life and as it culminated in one of my marital arguments – one of the worst ever – I think I’d rather just forget it. I’m feeling challenged already.

  11. I’m thinking about doing it. It might be fun and I’ll probably not follow the rules since I never so anyway. Was that a long enough run on sentence for you? haha. Have a great weekend lady

  12. You can surely do it. If you can write a novel in only one month duration; then you can do this one also. Good luck to you. Waiting for your 26posts in the month of April. 🙂

  13. Renee, I’m looking forward to seeing your A to Z posts. However, I don’t have the creative or mental energy to rise to such a challenge. No worries though, since I shall live vicariously through you! 🙂

  14. Bella, you are underestimating your own strengths. You are extremely creative and I’m sure you would have no problem with this. I’ll try not to disappoint.

  15. I’m a little late to the party as you are already at “T”. I was checking out your blog and after reading your last several “A-Z” posts I had to find out all about it. I also only post once a week or so as I decided early on that I didn’t want to post just for the sake of posting and wanted to have something to say. I think you are very brave to take up this challenge. From what I have read so far you have more than met it. You are a truly gifted writer and I look forward to catching up with some more of your posts.
